Yellowstone Stars Preview a ‘Visceral Emotional Roller Coaster’ in Season 5, Part 2: ‘It Brought Me to Tears’

Yellowstone fans have been eagerly anticipating Season 5, Part 2 and the time is almost here. What’s in store for the Duttons? It turns out, the cast was totally in the dark about the details of the second half of the final season.

In a September 27 behind-the-scenes video, the Yellowstone cast revealed that security around the scripts was super tight — calling it “secretive” and pointing out how portions of the scripts were “redacted.”

The video starts off with Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, explaining, “This year, there was fun times on set. This is the greatest office in the world.” Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, added, “We’ve just been shooting, and I just feel so grateful. There’s a lot of laughter on our set.”

The tone takes a bit of turn, however, as the cast explains just how intense security was surrounding the storytelling — basically, they were kept very out of the loop. “On one hand, it was a big family reunion coming back, and on the other, it was a new set of challenges,” director Christina Voros said. “There was a lot of security around the script and the narrative.”

Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica, explained, “This season has been very secretive.”

Jennifer Landon, who plays Teeter, recalled, “We get these redacted scripts. Basically everything is blacked out except for your lines.”

Voros noted, “It’s a huge testament to the intrepidness of the crew, because you’ve learned how to do something a certain way for seven years, and all of a sudden, to have a new set of challenges that come from protecting the story for the sake of the audience.”

That protection should have a big payoff for fans who are eager to find out how the show ends. “I think it kind of just adds to a little bit more of a uniqueness,” Denim Richards (Colby) shared. “The audience this year will really see real reactions, you know, that really were not like rehearsed.”

Executive producer David Glasser teased, “I think there’s a ton of surprises for the fans.”

Taking this unique approach ensures no spoilers and promises “emotional” storytelling that viewers may want to prepare themselves for. “It’s a visceral, emotional roller coaster with every character across the board,” Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater) said.

Finn Little (Carter) promised, “A lot is going to happen in a very short amount of time.” Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton) added, “It’s going to be really, really exciting for people I think. Because you’ve been waiting a long time to see what’s going to happen with a few things.”

Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, shared, “It brought me to tears. It’s really, really good, and I think people are gonna really love it.”

There was no mention of how Yellowstone will handle Kevin Costner’s departure. In June, the actor announced that he would not be returning for Yellowstone season 5, part 2.
